The Sims 3

The better Sims game.

Got a bit of a slight obsession with The Sims 3. I'm not exactly sure what convinced me to get this one specifically. Don't miss that time period either. I think it had to do with me wanting to play something different and hearing about the dumpster fire that is The Sims 4 (genuinely utter filth). I used to play The Sims 4 on-and-off before it went free-to-play, then hearing about how the Sims 4 fandom (not all, calm down!) didn't find any issues with the game and that anyone who had a problem with the game was being a downer (not what that SPECIFIC group of fans said verbatim, but is not exactly helpful when improving a videoagame).

I remember being reccomended a video discussing the rough launch of The Sims 4 and how it was orignally supposed to be an MMO, similar to The Sims Online back in the early to mid-late 2000s. However, because of the awful launch of SimCity (2013), an online-only single player game, they scrapped it and turned it into The Sims 4. In this same video, they talk about the many, many downgrades of the Sims 4 compared to 3. Here's some of the thing that I find extremely problematic about 4.

issues I have with The Sims 4

  1. Is not an open world, but is instead multiple loading screens, even to visit a household nextdoor.
  2. Less basic features. ie; No pools, no toddlers, story progession (sims outside of your household aging & and other pivotal points like friends, partners, jobs, etc.), skin slider, vehichles, and a lot more. Yes they were added future updates, but should have been there from the jump.
  3. Too much DLC. The entire catalog is over $1,000 USD and is put into multiple packs instead of a large one (The Sims 4 having multiple occult packs like vampires, werewolves, and fairies when 3 has them all in one pack, Supernatural.)
  4. Is the reason for canceling The Sims 5, as it would be horrible start from day zero and start from scratch as a lot of fans have poured well over a BAND trying to get every pack.

So yeah, a lot of reasons why I don't mess with the sims 4 as a live service single-player game. Now back on to what made me want to play The Sims 3 while in high school. The vanilla version alone has way more content the 4, an open-world without loading screens, and a bunch of interesting interactions your sims can have with the world. Traits are carried down from sim to sim, like learning animations related to their parent's. Overall, it's a well more thought-out sequal than The Sims 4 before Maxis got devoured by EA.

Forever World

Now to the part of the actual point of this page. I remeber seeing videos about people on Minecraft wanting to have a world they stay in forever. They hop on for about 30 minutes to an hour, rather than have their usual one week phase before getting bored and playing something else. It's a similar thing, except for The Sims 3, having as many generations as possible. To make myself hop on, I decided to make a character (sorta like an alias) called...

FYI, the story is based purely on gameplay, as it's a pretty loose plot. Everything desrcribed is what I wrote down, so you're gonna have to use your imagination. This will be continously updated, just to have a place outside of my notebook to follow my story.

[day_1]

Stealing from Elvira made getting a cheap ride away and house pretty easy for Ron. The ride ended up taking him to Moonlight Falls, a quiet town located the mountains of Sim Nation. Arriving to his newly bought abboad, Ron walks up the patio, finding a key under the doormat. He unlocks the door, exploring his new home for the time being. Entering, Ron is met with an empty lving room with an open kitchen area. In the living room, he looks out the window reflecting on his descisions. Not long after, he spots a strange llamma man walking around the nearby woods. Ignoring the llamma man, Ron walks to the kitchen to look out that window instead. The doorbell rings, he approaches the door unlocks, twists the knob, and pulls. Outside the door is the same llamma man. Ron waves at the strange man before he introduces himself. The llamma mans name is Garrick Lombardo, the mascot for Sims Univeristy. Garrick explains to Ron that he is doing an annual promotion for the univeristy. Suddenly, a spark of lightning hits the front lawn, a cloud of smoke appears. Once the smoke clears, a strange metal structure appears. Ron contemplates his life descisions to get to this point before going to inspect the structure. Tapping the structure with his foot, another set a sparks come flying from the structure. Blinded, Ron cover his face right as another strange man pops out from the structure. The man introduces himself, Emit Relevart, a time traveller. Emit assumes that Ron is an adventurer and asks him to use the time machine. Ron declines, as he already needs to figure out how he is going to face his current present. Emit hands ron a rectangular, mettalic device with neon lights before leaving.

Ron laughs to himself, the bizzareness of this day. As he only brought the suitcase and the clothes on his back, Ron takes a cab to visit the SellnSwap store for furniture. He purchases a music box, rotational pull, and smasher. He leaves the store and walks to the local grocery store next to SellnSwap for food. He also stops by the bookstore across the street, buying a couple of recipes.

After taking another cab home, Ron decides to spiffy up his newly achieved solitude. The process takes up till evening, walking around to admire is achievment. He then takes a shower before going in his nearly empty bedroom to draw on his newly purchased sketchbook. He changes his mind, wanting to sketch outside before going to bed in his also newly bought sleeping bag.

Early in the hours, a burgular breaks in. Luckily, the house came an old alarm system, scaring off the intruder. An officer arrives just as the burgalar left. They felt a spark, but the officer left as the intruder is long gone. The officer reasures Ron that they will catch the robber next time before leaving.

[day_2]

Ron wakes up, has salad for breakfast, and remembers there being a trail park. He decides to take a cab and stops at the side of the road. Jogging through the the forest, he finds an opening for fortune telling next to a colorful wooden trailer. He decides to take the offer as he spent most of the simoleons on furniture and food. He walks into the wooden trailer, inside a dark room, lit only by an orb. A pair of hands appear from the dark. You look perceptive. 1 o clock, don't be late. Make sure to be in a good mood. Ron walks out the wooden trailer, raindrops falling, pondering the hollowness if life. As Ron ponders, a fair with bright, white wings approaches him, menacingly. They have a small argument before Ron leaves the forest, finding the fairies house on the way out.

He remembers there being another store next to the SellnSwap and takes another cab. After arriving, Ron eneters the store. Inside, the interior is very yellow. Bottles, books, and vials all over the place. Looking to his right, Ron sees and walks towards a large book stand. Curious, he reads the contents of the book. The book is a guide to alchemy, the study of elixirs. He first learns how to make a vial of bliss, preventing boredom. Before going back home, Ron chats with Joanie MacDuff, a military employee stationed in Moonlight Falls. Joanie encourages Ron to make an elixir. Following the alchemy book, he attempts to create a vial of bliss. Ron adds ingredients to a couldron with the occasional stir. Unfortunately, Ron added the wrong ingredient during the process, turning into a toad.

Dayumn! He really f#!●$@ yo s*%{ up.

Joanie gifts Ron yellow flowers as a way to cheer him up before continuing to chat. Before going home, Joaine give Ron a goodbye hug. Now home, he has to figure out how to reverse the toad curse.

[day_3]

Ron wakes up, still a toad. To put himself in the right mood, he prepares to make waffles. Once placed in the oven, they burn so badly it causes an indoor fire. Luckiliy, the house came with an extinguisher and puts out the otherwise small flame. Without an oven, Ron instead makes himself a bowl of cereal. After taking a morning shower, Ron steps outside and checks the daily newspaper with the local Fall Fesitival as its headline. He takes a cab to the town's Fall festival, arriving to see the place rather empty. Looking around, he spots a socccer ball & goal-post and rushes over to practice scoring. After practicing, Ron treats himself to an ice cone. Heading to a table to sit down, across from him is Joanie. They catch up, talking about his cooking skills from that morning. Joanie asks about the mask Ron has on. Ron explains that with his attempt to make an elixir, he ended up turning into a toad. Joanie than remembers a way to reverse the curse. Similar to The Princess and The Frog, you need to do a Toad Kiss. Joanie then gives Ron a kiss on the cheek, turning him back to his human self. They continue to chat, Ron thanking Joanie during their conversation.

Out of nowhere, a wild horse tramples the fesitval. Wanting to avoid the horse, Ron looks around to see a staircase and goes down the step. At the last step is a white wooden door. He opens to the wooden door, revealing an underground chamber of sorts with a long hallway and multiple doors. One of the doors leads to a room with bookcases on both walls, a similar large book centered in the room. He realizes the book is another guidebook for alchemy. He attempts to make another vial of bliss, failing again without turing into a toad again. He tries a third time, carefully he checks the steps needed. Hooray! Ron successfuly made a vial of bliss. Suddenly feeling nauseous, ron runs out of the room, out the chamber, and upstairs to vomit in a bathroom stall. He goes home in order to sleep off whatever made him feel that way.

[Day_4]

Ron wakes up to the sound of a car beeping outside. Remembering his first day as a fortune teller is today, he rushes outside to catch the provided carpool. He arrives late, feeling dissapointed, even after an otherwise good work day.

Now home, Ron takes a shower and uses his first paycheck to replace the oven. He then decides to take a late night alchemy class. After class, he revisits the underground chamber from last night. Finding the room with the guidebook for alchemy, he reads the text for a good while. Just as Ron was going to leave, a strange woman with glowing eyes barges in to get a book from the shelf. Calling out to the woman, Ron is ignored before leaving.

Exploring more of chamber, Ron finds at the end of the hallway a large bookcase. He inspects the case pushing multiple books until one pushes into the casing. A mechanical sound erupts from the case, opening into a hidden room. In the room to his left, another bookcase, to his right, a plant with unkown berries. Across, a set of candles surrounding a wooden table under a ghostly portait, a couple, both yellow. He leaves the room and chamber to go home, as it 3 in the morning.
