BEASTARS

bstrs-ch-100

My Favorite Anime/Manga

Beastars is my ultimate hyperfixation! I love the characters, the world building, the action, the fandom ships, the art progression, the soundtrack, everything. Good and bad. If you want my synopsis of the first arc.

So basically the world of BEASTARS is like Zootopia; animals living in a human-like society. Unlike Zootopia where they cop out and and make primal instincts a drug reaction, carnivores are born with it, the desire to eat meat. My main boy Legoshi is a large gray wolf, meaning he has to deal with these urges. However, he actively stays in the shadows, ashamed of being born a carnivore. He's also a part of the school's drama club, where Tem, an alpaca who was devoured by an unknown carnivore, most likely another student. This sets both the club and school on high alert. One night while helping the actors do a rehearsal. Legoshi smells something a lil too good and his instincts set in, He almost devours a dwarf white rabbit right before being called back. They meet again, her name is Haru, they talk a bit. So now Legoshi has to figure out he wants to devour Haru, or devour Haru.

Dawg, I could go on and on and on about how much I love BEASTARS like. DAMN. I think I talked so much to a friend they mentioned I didn't even take a breath or pause. I hecking love, love BEASTARS so much. The first anime that actually spoke to me, with all the characters. It was so different from what I usually watch; city-level fighting, simple shonen "I wanna be the best" type person, and a lot less drama-focused. I mean I've watched dramas like Tora Dora (which is also a great rom-com, actaully one of the few) and Ladies Vs. Butlers. But what made me watch it was lock down, I saw at first and had the fixed mindset of I'm not watching a 3d furry anime, hell naw. I finished the entire first season in one night, I then watched it again, and again, and again, waiting for season 2. I think I've watched both seasons atleast 10 times in a row, it's just that good to me. It was also the only manga I sat down and finished, (CSM is still ongoing so it doesn't count), it took me one month. I read a volume every day, the only reason; wanting to have fully read the series for Boring Keith's wonderful Queer analysis (AKA his coming out video). I've watced his three hour video about three times now? I stopped wactching his video, to give myself an entire month, to finish reading all 22 volumes or 196 chapters, for a video about a guy yapping about his interpretation of "the furry anime" which is only partially true about BEASTARS. I think the was one of the few times I interacted with the media itself before watching someone's opinion on it, and coming to a similar conclusion. I mean, Lougoshi is an extremely strong ship. I didn't see it at first until I watched the anime religiously and started to see why so many shipped them. There's even MORE evidence in the manga but yeah, it was the first time I condoned a non-canonical ship. Speaking of which I wanna talk about my favorite character...

Lemme reintroduce you to my favorite BEASTARS character, Legoshi, "the perverted wolf." Legoshi, as mentioned above is a large gray wolf. However, despite his large stature, he hunches himself over and lowers himself to the level of shorter animals to seem smaller than he actually is. The reason I headcanon him as autistic is because he doesn't really understand social cues, has a tighter mask on the beginning (wanting to avoid any action, even if it would make his life better) doing anything to be ignored, and... how he obsesses over Haru, kinda like how I used to hyper fixate on YouTubers. He's aware that he is seen as a danger to herbivores as he is pretty large in this world (I'm taller than him by 2 inches and have seen some people hit 5 or 7 irl. Then again, anyone above 5'10 is tall to me). At first glance, he may seem pretty intimidating, but he's just a chill guy with a thing for herbivores. I really love his progression within both the anime and manga from a timid giant to an introvert with some security. Won't lie, I really related to his earlier character as he did feel shame about being who he was, a carnivore who knew what he could be and trying to avoid it instead of just... being? One thing I also love about beastars is how his behavior is called out unlike other shows who either make them 100% right or only be called out at the end. He makes mistakes because of his own faults and sometimes just guesses wrong, which I also like. I wouldn't say he's just like me fr but I do resonate with his character a lot as someone, like most people on Neocities do not fit the stereotype or model person. Makes me feel seen, thanks Paru Itagaki.
